An independent software engineering company

No outside investors, no growth target set by someone who will never use the software, and no incentive to staff a project larger than it needs to be. The company answers to the people paying it to build something, which is a shorter list than most agencies have.

It also sets a limit. We take on a small number of engagements at a time, because the alternative is the thing that makes most software consultancies unpleasant to buy from: work sold by the people who will not be doing it, then handed to whoever is free.

Most software fails after it ships rather than before. It works on the day it is shown and then degrades, because nobody could see what it was doing, nobody could explain a decision it made, and the people who built it are the only ones who can run it.

So the parts that are usually deferred are the parts we start with: the audit trail, the permission model, what happens when an input is wrong, and whether a restore has ever actually been performed. These are cheap at the beginning and close to impossible to retrofit, which is the entire argument for doing them first.

The other half of that is knowing what not to build. A great deal of engineering effort goes into distribution, abstraction and configurability that the system will never use, and every piece of it is paid for again by whoever is on call at two in the morning.

Project J is our first product, currently in development. It is a platform for professional traders combining analytics, performance tracking, broker synchronisation and AI-assisted insight.

Building it matters to the client work for an unglamorous reason: it means we operate something ourselves. Every decision about backups, tenancy, billing, support tooling and cost is one we have had to make and then live with, rather than one we have only ever recommended.

StarBlyn OPC Private Limited is a one-person company registered in India, working with clients worldwide. A one-person company is a specific legal form under the Companies Act rather than a description of the delivery team.

We are a young company and we would rather say so than imply a history that does not exist. What we will point to is the engineering: the standards above are the ones the work is actually held to, and they are visible in the product we are building in the open.
